Carrie Coon says a sense of humor and honesty are central to her marriage with actor and playwright Tracy Letts. The couple, who have been married for 13 years, are raising two children together.

“Number one is a sense of humor,” Coon told E! News at the 2026 CFDA Fashion Awards on Nov. 2, adding that humor is especially important when raising children. She also described truthfulness as essential, saying the couple began their relationship that way and have continued to rely on it.

Coon and Letts met in 2010 while starring together in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in Chicago. They marked their 13th wedding anniversary in September. Coon joked that their marriage “feels like longer.”

The actress also shared that her children, son Haskell, 8, and a 5-year-old daughter, are less enthusiastic when she gets dressed up. They see her makeup or a fitting as a sign she is going out, she said, and sometimes ask her to take it off. After she returns home wearing makeup, her son has told her she looks like a clown and asked her to remove it before they cuddle.

Coon described her fashion sense as evolving. She said she has learned from fittings for The Gilded Age and from working with designers for red-carpet events, approaching each occasion with curiosity. At the awards, she wore a strapless blue Theia gown made with fabric from an old French mill.
