Ariana Grande and Ricky Alvarez were among the spectators cheering runners at the New York City Marathon on Sunday. Influencer Ella Schweiger approached the couple with a request: write an encouraging message for a stranger who had completed the 26.2-mile race.
Grande wrote “You did it!” and added hearts, signing the note “Ari + Ricky.” Schweiger shared video of the encounter on Instagram before delivering the message to a runner named Ellie, who was surprised to learn who had written it.
Ellie said she had listened to Grande’s music during the race and that one of her songs helped her through a difficult stretch around mile 24.
The interaction was part of Schweiger’s “Ella’s Envelope” project, which gathers uplifting notes from strangers and delivers them to runners.
