The first season of American Hostage is ending with its eight-episode finale, “Break the Bank,” which airs Sunday, November 1, at 9 p.m. ET on MGM+. The thriller stars Jon Hamm as Indianapolis radio journalist Fred Heckman, who becomes involved in a hostage crisis after Tony Kiritsis, played by Giovanni Ribisi, abducts mortgage broker Dick Hall and demands to speak with Heckman on the radio.
American Hostage has not been officially renewed for a second season. However, its creators have expressed interest in continuing the series as an anthology focused on pivotal moments in American life and their wider consequences.
In a September interview with the Los Angeles Times, Hamm and co-creator Shawn Ryan discussed the possibility of exploring new stories in future seasons. Hamm said there were “so many opportunities to tell stories,” while Ryan indicated that the series could continue by examining other significant events.
Co-creator Eileen Myers told Collider that the intended format would feature a new cast and plot each season. She also said that, if a second season moves forward, executive producer Sharon Hoffman and Myers would take over showrunning duties. Myers added that the team already has an idea for the potential season, which Ryan reportedly considered a strong concept.
No premiere date, cast or storyline has been announced for Season 2. William Jackson Harper, Mireille Enos, Jonathan Tucker and Kat Cunning also appear in the first season alongside Hamm, Ribisi and Kristoffer Polaha.
