Alton Towers is permanently closing The World of David Walliams, a section of the UK theme park featuring rides based on characters from the comedian and author’s children’s books. The park announced the decision as its 2026 peak season comes to an end, following a regular review of its attractions.
A park representative told Deadline that the closure was a decision made as part of that review. One of the area’s rides was Gangsta Granny: The Ride, a 4D attraction centered on a crown jewels heist.
The closure comes amid allegations concerning Walliams. HarperCollins dropped him in December 2025 after reports of an internal investigation into his alleged behavior toward junior female employees. In September 2026, the publisher also confirmed it no longer represented his backlist of books, and talent agency YMU ended its representation. Walliams was also reportedly removed from an upcoming film project.
Walliams has denied behaving inappropriately. His spokesperson previously said he had not been informed of allegations by HarperCollins, had not taken part in an investigation, and had not been given an opportunity to answer questions. The spokesperson said Walliams was taking legal advice.
Walliams has written children’s books including Gangsta Granny, The Boy in the Dress, Billionaire Boy, Ratburger and The Midnight Gang. His books have sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
